Wee 4: Apprehensions

Dear Donna, dear all. Week 4, another busy week. Fortunately, once more we are on the way to complete it with more or less difficulties.
The discussion on Reading/Writing skill building was quite challenging as there was a lot to read about. The articles I read  Three Extensive Reading Activities for ESL/EFL Students Using E-books, and 'Using the Internet in ESL Writing Instruction' provide a lot of ideas for enhancing my learners' skills in the two areas addressed. I' m particualry interested in the Writing, because we do a lot of Spaeking about the issues related to renewable/fossil energies.  Writing could be used to go a step further, by exposing learners to more "creative" assignments.
As to the difficulties that Technology might help resolve, I have identified the following:
-          How to motivate students for self-learning?
-          How to orient them to specific tools/materials according to their needs?
-          How to assess their progress and make sure the tools/materials make a difference?
The most difficult task this week was the Technology  Lesson Plan. When I decided to participate in this training, I was interested in developing technology to improve my students' learing of TOEFL. It has been difficult to come up with a lesson plan dealing with TOEFL, that's why I did something more general ( Reading-Listening-Writing).
I hope I will be able to figure out what I want to do, and I rely on all of you to give me some ideas.
Until next week, I wish you an excellent wekend.

  2. Hi, Dear Daouda! You choose very thoughtful research questions for your teaching! It's very important to know how to motivate students for their learning and how assess their results in learning. Usually, these two points are in connection, if they do not expect that they will be assessed and they receive a low score for the work, they will lose their motivation and opposite...I am sure that in sites that we have for reading and learning, many practicing exercises on TOEFL. Thus, you will complete all tasks for planning lesson and project and practicing TOEFL. Good luck! With the best, Natalia

  3. Dear Daouda,
I think that all the activities you implement to develop your students´ language skills will lead them to do fine on the TOEFL test. This week we have gotten really good readings which provide lots of ideas which will improve our students´ communicative competences.
By the way, what version of the TOEFL do you students have to take? The paper-based, the computer-based, or the Internet-based version?
    Wilma.
